A guide to semaglutide care

A plain-language guide to online care

Telehealth semaglutide consultations

Understand the visit before you choose a service. Start with the medicine, then make room for your questions.

Build your question sheet

What are you asking about?

Telehealth means getting care without being in the same room as the doctor or other health professional. You may talk by video or phone, or fill in a form and send messages that they read and answer later.

Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) acts like a natural signal released by your gut after a meal, helping reduce hunger and control blood sugar. The visit is a chance to discuss whether that medicine fits the reason you are seeking care.

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) reviews each medicine for the particular use being considered. As of September 2026, some semaglutide products have FDA approval in the United States. That makes the exact product name worth asking for.

What does an online visit involve?

Bring your health history

Write down what brings you to the visit and what you hope to understand. The medicine's official health instructions call for a review of past health problems, current medicines, pregnancy plans and any surgery coming up. Write these down so you can tell the doctor during the visit.

Make sure you can ask and answer questions

The Federation of State Medical Boards connects the state bodies that oversee doctors; its guidance allows a first visit live or through forms and messages read later. Its guidance says the doctor must still check your health as carefully as during a visit in the same room. State rules still differ as of September 2026. Ask how the doctor gathers extra details from you and what route lets you raise your own questions.

Ask what needs to happen in person

The boards' guidance says the doctor must arrange tests or an examination in person if those are needed to check your health. Ask what happens to the visit fee if no prescription is written.

Is online care a real route?

Federal law, as of September 2026, allows semaglutide prescribing without first meeting in person. Some drugs have extra federal limits because they can be misused; semaglutide is not on those federal lists. The doctor still has to follow your state's rules and meet the same level of care expected at a visit in person. Ask who reviews your health history, how you can ask questions, and whether any checks need to happen in person.

HHS, the U.S. health department, says a professional's license or other state permission must cover the place where you are during the visit. Check this first when considering licensed care online, including online follow-up from a clinic you visit in person.

What supports weight-loss claims?

The STEP 1 study enrolled adults with obesity, or excess weight and a related health condition; none had diabetes. Average weight loss at 68 weeks was 14.9% with semaglutide and 2.4% with a dummy injection. The dummy injection contained no active drug, and both groups received help with food and activity.

Novo Nordisk, the medicine's maker, funded the study. The average does not predict your own result. Bring both your hopes and your doubts to the conversation.

This explains why your location during the visit matters to licensing. Use it to frame the location question when you compare services.
